Russell Westbrook dedicates 20-20-20 game to Nipsey Hussle in win over Lakers

Not since Wilt Chamberlain did it in 1968 had a player notched 20 points, 20 rebounds and 20 assists in a single game.

And when Russell Westbrook did it in the Thunder’s 119-103 win over the Lakers, his thoughts turned immediately to his friend Nipsey Hussle, the rapper who was killed on Sunday, and whose death rocked Los Angeles and the NBA.

“That wasn’t for me, man,” said Westbrook, who went to high school in Lawndale and college at UCLA. “That was for my bro, man. That was for Nipsey. Twenty plus 20 plus 20.cheap nhl jerseys china
They know what that means, man. That’s for my bro. Rest in peace, Nipsey.”

Added together, the numbers were significant to Hussle. The Rollin’ 60s was a notorious Crips gang clique that Hussle joined as a teenager. Last year, Hussle told The Times about the post-traumatic stress that came with living in what he called a “war zone,” where death was so common the residents felt immune to it.

Longtime Laker Byron Scott passes Playa Vista town home to new owner

NBA player-turned-coach Byron Scott is walking away a winner from a recent home sale in Playa Vista. The former Laker sold his two-story town home in the area for $998,000, or $8,000 over the asking price.

Scott not only netted more than the asking price, he also doubled his investment. Records show he bought the property seven years ago for $480,000.

The 1,560-square-foot residence is part of an 86-unit complex found two miles from the beach. Hardwood lines the main level, which holds a living room with a fireplace, a dining area and a kitchen with a curved breakfast bar. A balcony sits off the common area.

The upstairs master suite — one of two bedrooms and three bathrooms — adds a second balcony.

In addition to two parking spaces, community amenities include a swimming pool and sports court.

Taria Lewis of Tolbert and Associates holds the listing. Brooke Bryant of RE/MAX Estate Properties represented the buyer.

Scott, 58, spent 10 of his 14 NBA seasons with the Lakers and won three championships with the team during the Showtime era. He shifted to coaching around the turn of the century, winning Coach of the Year with the New Orleans Hornets in 2008 and serving as head coach of the Lakers from 2014-16.

NBA Trade Scenario: Fixing New Orleans Pelicans depth issues with Justin Holiday, Rodney Hood, among others

I began writing this trade piece with an eye towards linking the 2018-19 New Orleans Pelicans to the 2009-10 Phoenix Suns and how they could potentially emulate that roster’s success.

Upon further review, it quickly became apparent that the Pels wouldn’t be able to copy the formula due to a combination of health, roster cohesion and excellence at the point guard position from Steve Nash. That Suns team had a preposterous run of good health from their core nine players all the way through the playoffs. They also had a roster that seamlessly fit together with a primary playmaker in Steve Nash, an elite offensive big in Amar’e Stoudemire and a combination of ample shooting and defense from complimentary pieces such as Jason Richardson, Channing Frye, Grant Hill, Jared Dudley and Robin Lopez.

Since my initial research for this article, the Pels have spiraled. Sitting at 17-22 and in the midst of the worst trade speculation since Chris Paul, New Orleans is flailing about for wins. Anthony Davis remains on the roster, but seemingly for only as long as he wishes. Should the All Star big man decline the supermax on July 1, Wholesale jerseys  or an extension of any kind, it will be imperative for the Pelicans to deal him to the highest bidder to ensure the franchise’s future instead of losing him for nothing. Worse than that, if he decides he wants out before this upcoming trade deadline, the team won’t have Boston as an option or bargaining chip against current bidders should they decide to comply (Obviously, it’s difficult to imagine this scenario coming to fruition.)

Speculating on the team’s options to deal Davis has been the current joie de vivre. Canvassing the league, it’s challenging to find a palatable deal that would satisfy the demands Davis’s talent should return while also setting the team up for success. However, we’re here to be different so lets try and save the sinking ship.

The Pelicans are currently outside the playoff picture, are losing close games and playing their stars heavy minutes without victories to justify it. It’s clear the roster needs some changes but the assets are slim, save a 2019 1st Round Pick which gains value with every loss and shouldn’t be moved for any band-aid.

The solution then, could be reshuffling the current roster to better resemble that of those successful Phoenix Suns from a decade ago. One opportunity the Pelicans have to accomplish this is to bring in players whose value is distressed or diminished by their current situation. An example would be former Cleveland Cavalier Jae Crowder who’s play took off once he landed in Utah and was given a familiar role. A possible scenario lies with two teams in the East, who’s wings could impact the Pelicans both immediately and for the long-term in a dramatically positive way.

Anthony Davis’ New Orleans Pelicans Teammates Discuss Pros And Cons Of Supermax Contract

The biggest NBA storyline as we enter 2019 is undoubtedly what’s going to happen with New Orleans Pelicans superstar big man Anthony Davis.

To quickly break his situation down for the uninitiated, Davis’ contract is up after the 2019-2020 season but The Brow will be eligible for a supermax contract extension this summer, which would pay him an astronomical $239 million over five seasons.

But rumors are swirling around the league that cheap nba jerseys china
Davis may pass on that extension and try to go to a championship contender like the Los Angeles Lakers or Boston Celtics. The fact that the Pels have lost seven of 10 and dropped to 14th in the Western Conference, four-and-a-half games out of the 8th seed, isn’t helping the team’s cause and has the NBA universe intensely speculating about Davis’ short and long-term future.
“We’re just a better team than our record shows,” Davis told reporters after Wednesday night’s 126-121 loss in Brooklyn. “We all know that.”

New Orleans fell to 26th in points allowed per game and 26th in defensive efficiency, and Davis said everyone in the team’s organization is frustrated.

“We know that it’s a loaded conference,” he said. “We gotta be able to put a streak of wins together.”

Davis refused to answer questions about when it would get to a point where he wouldn’t want to play for the Pelicans, but his upcoming decision on whether to accept a max contract in the summer looms like a large, dark cloud over the team. It’s also possible that over the next several weeks, Davis signals to New Orleans ownership that he won’t be taking its extension offer, which could lead the Pelicans to try to trade Davis prior to the Feb. 7 deadline.

Anthony Davis: ‘Everyone Is Frustrated’ by Pelicans’ Early-Season Struggles

New Orleans Pelicans forward Anthony Davis had 34 points, 26 rebounds and three blocks against the Brooklyn Nets on Wednesday evening.

Somehow, the Pels still lost.

The Nets scored 73 first-half points Cheap New Orleans Pelicans jerseys en route to a 126-121 win. Brooklyn led by 18 heading into the fourth before holding on.

Afterward, Davis expressed his frustrations. “We’re a better team than our record shows,” he said per Ian Begley of ESPN.com. “Everyone is frustrated. Players, coaches, front office. We’ve just got to do better.”

Davis also referenced the team’s poor defensive effort:

“We wasn’t playing no defense. The whole first half, they did whatever they wanted. They didn’t feel us on the defensive end. We wasn’t physical, wasn’t talking. They got a lot layups, a lot of open threes. They shot the ball extremely well in the first half due to our lazy defense.”

The 17-22 Pels, who are now 14th in the Western Conference, were No. 26 in the NBA in defensive efficiency entering Wednesday.

The Pels were also No. 26 in points per game allowed.

Wide-open shots and easy drives into the lane characterized the Nets’ offensive night. Brooklyn deserves much credit for hitting 50.5 percent of its shots and 16 of 31 three-point attempts, but the Pels made it easy by offering little resistance:
Davis did offer a silver lining, though, referencing the team’s run to the Western Conference Semifinals last season:

“We know what we did last year. We know how good of a team we are this year,” Davis said. “We just got [Payton] back, and then we have Niko out; we can’t stay healthy. We still have to go out there and prove it. We just can’t feel sorry for ourselves.”

Davis could be right when he says the team is better than its record. The Pels did start 4-0 with a healthy team on the floor, but point guard Elfrid Payton has played just eight games and Nikola Mirotic has been out since December 10.

Payton is back now. If Mirotic comes back healthy and the five-man unit of Davis, Payton, Mirotic, guard Jrue Holiday and power forward Julius Randle stays on the floor, then a run to playoff contention isn’t out of the realm of possibility.

However, the Pels’ defensive problems don’t look like an easy fix right now, as they’ve been a season-long issue. That lowers New Orleans’ ceiling, although a bounce-back toward a record above .500 is plausible.

Scuffling Pelicans fail late against Mavericks, lose 5th consecutive game

DALLAS — Luka Doncic scored 21 points, including the tiebreaking free throws with 30 seconds left, and the Dallas Mavericks ended a six-game losing streak with a 122-119 victory against the New Orleans Pelicans on Wednesday night.

The 19-year-old rookie made 11 of 12 free throws, including the last three points of the game in the final half-minute. He missed one of two after rebounding a miss on a 3-pointer Wholesale jerseys
from Anthony Davis, who had 32 points and 18 rebounds in the fifth consecutive loss for the Pelicans.

Davis missed another 3 with a chance to tie in the final seconds, and Doncic got the rebound again to finish one rebound shy of a triple-double. The Slovenian had 10 assists in the first of two straight games between these teams.

DeAndre Jordan had 20 points on 7-of-7 shooting and 12 rebounds for his 22nd double-double.

The backup guard duo of J.J. Barea and Devin Harris carried the Mavericks through most of the fourth quarter. Barea had 11 of his 18 in the final quarter, including 3-of-3 shooting on 3-pointers, and Harris scored 10 of his 16 in the fourth.

New Orleans Pelicans

Jrue Holiday scored 25 points, and Julius Randle had 23 points, including 11-of-13 shooting on free throws, against his hometown team.

The Mavericks ended a streak of five straight games of allowing at least 120 points while ending a losing skid that had matched their season high.

Maxi Kleber had a career-high six blocks as the Mavericks finished with a season-high 13. Kleber had 10 points. Harrison Barnes scored 16.

Season-high for Dirk
Dirk Nowitzki scored a season-high seven points while playing in the second half for the second time in his six games. The 40-year-old hit a 3 late in the third quarter to top his previous high of three points.

Nowitzki is in his 21st season with one team, an NBA record. The 13-time All-Star missed the first 26 games with a longer-than-expected recovery from left ankle surgery in April. He became the sixth NBA player with 900 career wins, after the Mavericks lost his first five games.

Rare double-double
Teams playing two games in a row against each other, as the Mavericks and Pelicans will do, isn’t that unusual. Consecutive sets of such games are a little strange, though. Dallas will do that with two straight against Oklahoma City on back-to-back nights Sunday and Monday.

Pelicans: The other double-figure scorer was Frank Jackson with 10. … Tim Frazier had nine points and seven assists.

Mavericks: Nowitzki passed Karl Malone for fourth on the career list of games played at 1,477. Nowitzki has a chance to catch John Stockton (1,504) for third. Malone and Stockton spent 18 seasons together in Utah.

Up next
The teams play again Friday in New Orleans.

Pelicans guard Elfrid Payton returns to practice

Riding a five-game skid, the New Orleans Pelicans received a bit of good news Thursday as guard Elfrid Payton returned to practice.

“I practiced a good little bit,” Payton said. “(I) was only limited on a few things. So, we are getting close.”

The first-year Pelican and former Ehret and Louisiana-Lafayette cheap nba jerseys china
star has been out since Nov. 16 with a broken left hand and is eager to return to the lineup.

New Orleans Pelicans Jerseys

New Orleans is ready to have him back as well.

“We were a different team with him on the floor,” said Pelicans coach Alvin Gentry. “So, hopefully, that’s going to be the case when he gets back.”

The Pelicans are 5-1 with Payton in the starting lineup. That lose came when Payton injured his ankle against the Utah Jazz Oct. 27. He returned for the Nov. 16 matchup against the Knicks where he suffered his current injury. The Pelicans have gone 6-13 since then.
Payton’s teammates are eager to see him on the floor again as well.

“We get our point guard back,” Anthony Davis said. “Another guy who can get in the paint, finish, find guys and kind of run the seam.”

Payton said he doesn’t have an exact date for his planned return but said it should be “soon though.”

New Orleans Pelicans run into fourth quarter problems again as Luka Doncic and Dallas Mavericks prevail, 122-119

The New Orleans Pelicans led for a good deal of a second half, got overtaken in a fourth quarter and then watched an opponent make more positive plays during the final few minutes of a game. Tonight’s result: a 122-119 loss to the Dallas Mavericks.

“It’s kind of a duplicate of what we’ve been going through where we play good basketball and now we have all kinds of trouble closing games,” said Alvin Gentry after the defeat. “{We} have a couple of defensive mishaps, but then when you really, really need to make a shot, we didn’t make them and they did.”

New Orleans Pelicans jersey

Over the final three minutes, Darius Miller missed a three, Cheap New Orleans Pelicans jersey Julius Randle missed a twelve-footer and then seconds later was called for a — you guessed it — an offensive foul, and Anthony Davis missed a couple of three-point attempts, including this potential go-ahead score with 19.3 second remaining.
I know Anthony Davis was hot, and he was carrying the team nicely for much of the critical part of the fourth quarter, but that’s not a good shot. He’s never been reliable from three-point range so it’s a shame New Orleans couldn’t get him the ball closer to the rim — where he was torching the defense of Dallas — and also a few more times preceding this play.

“Well, he had played well,” Gentry on being asked about the performance of Davis. “I thought we should have gotten him the ball a few more times. We were just a little impatient. I thought he had such an advantage that he had taken advantage of it the last two times down the floor. We’ve got to get him the ball in those situations.”

You know who didn’t have a problem getting the ball whenever and wherever he wanted?

Luka Doncic.

This kid is sooooo the real deal. The 19-year-old missed registering a triple-double by one rebound (21 points, 10 assists and nine rebounds), and he carried Dallas to the finish line (although J.J. Barea proved to be a prickly thorn in all sides again). The rookie’s grit and savvy is that of a veteran, as evidenced by drawing a charge on Davis in the third quarter, but getting to the free throw line with 30 second remaining in a tie game is big time. Down the stretch he sank three of four free throws which proved the difference in the game. Aren’t you jealous of Mark Cuban’s good fortune too?

Overall, the big three for the Pelicans played well for the most part. Anthony Davis finished with a line of 32 points and 18 rebounds, Jrue Holiday wound up with 25 points, six assists and five rebounds and Julius Randle poured in 23. The only other New Orleans member to hit double digits was Frank Jackson with 10, which included a couple of threes, an acrobatic reverse lay-in and a hard slam dunk.

Anthony Davis Will Consider A Trade This Summer If The Pelicans Fail To Improve

But despite these truths, you shouldn’t hold your breath on him wearing another jersey just yet — at least, not until next season.

As quoted by Andrew Sharp on the Open Floor Podcast, Davis will give New Orleans at least the rest of this season to figure things out before thinking about an exit plan.

New Orleans Pelicans Jerseys

“I was told before the season that Anthony Davis was talking to another All-Star before the year and said basically that he is going to give it another full year in New Orleans and then Wholesale jerseys  if it doesn’t work out with the Pelicans this year and they don’t make progress then he was going to start to entertain a trade this coming summer”

Because Davis is eligible to become a free-agent in 2020, it drastically increases the pressure for the team. If they can’t improve their roster by the end of this season, and Davis opts to request a trade, the Pelicans would be inclined to deal him rather then lose him for nothing.

So Anthony Davis does have the power. And, now more than ever, New Orleans must get their act together if they want to ensure they keep their star for more years to come. Going forward, it’ll be interesting to see what happens this summer between Davis and the Pels. No doubt, it’s a moment that pretty much every GM around the league is waiting for.

How Anthony Davis responded to LeBron James’ comments

On Tuesday, Los Angeles Lakers forward LeBron James told ESPN it would be “amazing” if New Orleans Pelicans forward Anthony Davis was traded to the Lakers.

“That would be amazing,” James told ESPN on Tuesday. “That would be amazing, like, duh. That would be incredible.”

On Wednesday night, Davis had his chance to respond.

In an interview with ESPN, Davis deflected the question cheap nba jerseys china
the way he has all season long about his future after the 2018-19 season.

“Obviously it’s cool to hear any high-caliber player say they want to play with me,” Davis said. “But my job is to turn this team around. If we’re 15-17, that means I’m not doing my job.”

cheap nba jerseys china

The Pelicans fell to 15-17 on Wednesday with a loss to the Milwaukee Bucks. Davis had 27 points and 11 rebounds in 29 minutes. Davis missed a quarter and a half because of a stomach illness.

Davis, 25, has been the center of trade speculations for quite some time but it’s really ramped up since last summer. He has two years remaining on his current contract after this season. He’s making $25.5 million this season and is set to make $27.1 million in 2019-20. He has a player option for the 2020-21 season at $28.6 million.

The player option is likely to be declined because Davis is eligible for a supermax extension worth between $240-250 million over five years beginning next summer. Davis has also given the Pelicans zero indication that he wants to get out of New Orleans, he could decline the option and leave the Pelicans as a free agent.
Davis declined to even talk about the possible extension with ESPN.

“When that time comes, of course we will see,” Davis said. “I love my teammates. I love New Orleans. I love the fans. I talk their slang. I love their food.”

Until Davis makes it known to management that he wants out, New Orleans will not be engaging with any team – the Lakers, the Boston Celtics or otherwise – until that happens.
